A.V.A.C. (Cobra Pilot)
The Cobra A.V.A.C. trainee is pulled from only the most experienced of the Cobra Viper Pilot Corps. Only after a rigorous and sometimes deadly training regiment of high-g stress testing is an A.V.A.C. given the chance to qualify in the Cobra Firebat. The A.V.A.C. is described as fearless and cunning, they can fly circles around most enemy aircraft and take great pride in the fact that they are some of the only Cobra Pilots willing to man the "Pocket Rocket" (Cobra Fire Bat). Qualified to operate the Rattler, Fire Bat, Hurricane and Python Conquest, the A.V.A.C. is Cobra's most versatile pilot.
Creator's Notes
Throughout the GI Joe Cartoons and Comics of the early eighties, we always had a Viper Pilot that would be shown flying the Cobra Rattler. Unfortunately the closest Hasbro ever came to creating such a character, was when they repainted the original Cobra Soldier with a Silver Logo, packaged him with the ever elusive "Cobra Glider" and called him "Viper Pilot". This figure always left me feeling unsatisfied. Maybe it was the fact that his Logo rubbed off within a year of owning him, or that he looked nothing like the Pilots employed by Cobra throughout the Comic and Cartoon.
Any Joe fan knows that the Avac is not necessarily identical to the Pilots I'm referring to, but considering that my only alternative would be the "Wild Weasel" figure, I decided that this would make for a very welcome compromise. In my opinion, it would seem that the original design of the Avac figure, may have been Hasbros attempt at just that. And so I give you my new A.V.A.C., dressed in his Cobra blues and ready to fly.
