Medi-Viper.

The strict rules of medical practice dissuade many aspiring doctors with creative minds and the courage to use them. Some consider these men to be unscrupulous while in retrospect the world moves forward by leaps and bounds based on the experiments of just such men. Cobra understands and encourages such practices as seen in their science, technology and medical divisions. Nowhere is this belief more evident than in the corps of the Medi-Vipers.

The aspiring Medi-Viper is first tried in battle and placed among a platoon of battle hardened Vipers. Their first objective is to learn how to fight and watch the true horrors of battlefield injuries as they happen. The survivors are then placed into medic training camps where they learn to patch up wounds and methods to keep wounded man fighting. The hours are long and drills are constant. A Medi-viper learns to work under intense sleep deprivation and in low light situations. To wake from a dead sleep to the sound of mortar shells landing and immediately seek out wounded and work their magic using bandages and drugs to get them back on their feet. A mixture of soldier and medic, the red crosses on their uniforms are for their identification only and no Medi-Viper has any problem joining the fray and adding to the enemy's body count.

After two years service, in the field, a survivor of the Medi-Viper program is welcomed to advance into training under the direct supervision of Cobra's head surgeon Scalpel and to move on the Cobra's advanced medical research division. The sick part, however, is that many of these men choose to stay in the field. Addicted to the adrenaline and enjoying the license to play God as they save lives and take them too.

Creator's Notes

The long sought after Medi-Viper was finally made into a figure in 2005 and all of Joe fandom rejoiced. One problem though, they made him as a new sculpt and although he was a damn good figure he was simply not the Medi-Viper I envisioned from those classic comics that first gave us a cameo of this character. Rewind to the days of writing the story that would become My Brother's Keeper and the style I prefer to write in, no limitations. I found myself with a whole cast of characters that would have to be made, the Medi-Viper being one of them. After consulting numerous sources around the Joe online community and with some creative help from my wife, I came up with this and I could not be happier.
