Out of all of Cobra’s mechanized Armory, only a select few have lasted the tests of time, of those the Cobra Hiss tank still remains Cobra’s main fighting vehicle and with good reason, affordable to produce, easily upgraded weapons systems and a layout that would allow even a child to operate its primary systems. Although the Hiss has seen many updates through the Hiss II (IIB), the original still manages to fill a gap in Cobra’s armor column. However, the original Hiss does have some draw backs, most importantly its inability to fight off airborne targets, which in the past required the accompaniment of a Stinger during most engagements. Always looking to improve on perfection, M.A.R.S. (Military Armaments and Research Systems) sought out a way to incorporate all of the Original Hiss tanks Pros while eliminating the Cons, and so the Hiss V was born.

Building on the frame of the original Hiss but keeping in mind the elements that brought upon the need for the Hiss II, M.A.R.S. was able to create a new Hiss tank with the same small footprint of the original, while adding an upgraded sloped armor design, reinforced driver cockpit and troop carrying capabilities. The side armor plates can elevate allowing its occupants to provide small arms support while safely hidden away behind composite armor. Two, operator controlled 50 caliber ‘anti-personnel’ machine guns were added that can be switched to automatic fire acquisition, allowing the driver to concentrate solely on the operation of the Hiss V’s complement of S.L.A.M. missile systems. Both ground-to-ground and ground-to-air missiles systems can be controlled from within the HISS V’s front or rear compartments. Although able to hold it’s own on the battlefield, the HISS V was imagined as more of a compliment to Cobra’s existing Armor than as a replacement, giving any Hiss column the extra added edge of Anti-Air capabilities while also adding to their range and level of fire power.
