It is widely believed, by many in Cobra, that no one chooses to become a Desert Scorpion. Simply because the ranks of the Desert Scorpions are crowded with malcontents and troublemakers, Ex-Vipers that couldn’t work together with a team or valued the ability to create chaos over achieving the goals of their unit. It would be true to say that the Desert Scorpions are the likely destination for any soldier amongst the Cobra ranks that displays such behavior, nothing like the failures that find their way into the “leaky suit brigade” (see: Toxo-Vipers). However, what most don’t realize, is that although it takes such behavior to land yourself in the Desert Scorpions many candidates find their true strengths once they arrive.
The Desert Scorpions form small tight knit squads that work together and watch each other’s backs because to not do so would mean certain death. Their training takes place in the same element in which they specialize, the deserts of Northeast Africa, where they learn to live and thrive in one of the most desolate environments known to man. Their tactics resemble that of the scorpions from which they are named, burying themselves within the sands or in the darkest shadows of craggy cliffs, waiting for an unsuspecting enemy to cross their paths. Sabotage and Guerrilla warfare are their methods of choice but don’t think you wont find them leading a charge. Their gear allows them to wait for hours beneath the sands, only a camouflaged re-breather tube that doubles as a visual relay unit to the HUD, (Heads up Display) within their helmets, can be seen from above the sands.
It is said that only one year of service is required once enrolled into the Desert Scorpions but it’s also rumored that most that find their way in usually choose to stay. Where else will they find themselves surrounded only by those that share their same vision of Chaos and Disordered, along with the dedication that Desert Scorpions pledge to each other?
